A strong contingent of Barrie Trojan swimmers competed at the Speedo Canadian Swimming Championships July 24 - July 30, 2024 that included six days at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre and one day in Welland for the open water events. The Markham Pan Am Centre was the venue for the Richmond Hill Aquatic Club Summer League swim meet, hosting 14 clubs and taking place July 19-21, 2024. The meet was well attended by BTSC swimmers with 47 athletes competing. Many of the club's swimmers chose to continue training through July making this meet their last for the season. There were many personal best times achieved by BTSC athletes swimming in the short course pool format. A team of BTSC swimmers headed to Gull Lake in Gravenhurst July 13-14 to compete in the Ontario Open Water Championship. It was a beautiful weekend with lots of blue skies and sunshine. The Barrie Trojans were one of 12 clubs participating in Collingwood June 22-23 at the Clippers June Invitational with 36 swimmers attending. It was a fun weekend and a great way for many of our swimmers to end their season. Here are some of the racing highlights from the meet. The Barrie Trojans were represented by a record number of twenty-six athletes at the Ontario Swimming Championships taking place at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre July 4-7, 2024. June 13 - 16, 2024 marked the start of the summer championship swim season with Festivals and Ontario Youth Junior (OYJ) Championships hosted at the Etobicoke Olympium and Markham Pan Am Centre respectively. BTSC was well represented at these events by swimmers who earned eligibility to compete by achieving the required time standards. Fifty-eight BTSC swimmers competed at the Etobicoke Olympium May 30 - June 2 at the Age Group International swim meet. There were 24 clubs represented at this meet including some out of province swimmers. This meet was highly subscribed leading to an abundance of competition. Some other highlights from AGIs include Sam Brundage achieving a CJC cut in the 100M breast as an 11 year old and setting a new Club record for 50M breastroke. A BTSC team of 40 swimmers competed at Brock University from May 31 - June 2, 2024 at the Huronia Regional Long Course Championship. This team raced hard all weekend and were crowned meet champions, earning the 2024 championship banner. All of the 40 swimmers contributed points to our overall team score. The Canadian Olympics Trials took place May 13 - 19 at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre. There were 865 athletes representing 150 clubs vying for positions on the Canadian Olympic Swim team headed to Paris in July. BTSC had 15 swimmers who qualified for this prestigious event and shared the pool with many of the swimmers who have become household names in our country. Etobicoke Olympium was the site of the Top Cup swim competition May 11-12, 2024. Top Cup is a unique event dedicated to 10 year old and under swimmers only with short course swimming in the morning and afternoon sessions followed by a long course format in the evening. BTSC athletes competed with 17 other clubs including some Quebec based teams. Ten swimmers wore their Trojan caps into the water.
