2024 Ontario Swimming Championships Highlights
The Barrie Trojans were represented by a record number of twenty-six athletes at the Ontario Swimming Championships taking place at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre July 4-7, 2024. The poolside announcer was regularly calling out BTSC swimmers during the races. Congratulations to all of our swimmers and coaches for a fantastic OSC swim meet. This team achieved a 4th overall team placement!
There were some very notable swims:
- Sam Brundage took 7 seconds off her seed time going into finals of the 200M breast. Sam finished 2nd after going into the final seeded 10th. An amazing accomplishment and even more so considering this was Sam’s first event where she was swimming finals. As an 11 year old she had never done so before.
- Griff Seguin went 5 seconds faster in his 200M butterfly finals race and took the lead in the last 50M to go on to finish 1st
- Kaia Hornby dominated the 200M fly, winning the race by 5 seconds.
- Jordi Vilchez won the 1500M free by 7 seconds in a time that would have been 6th overall at Canadian Trials.
In addition to the individual medals a number of relay teams were top 3 finishers.
- Kate Smith was part of mixed relay teams that won gold in the 4x50M and 4x100M free relays.
- Will Debroux, Scotty Sutton, Ben Millar, Jordi Vilchez won gold in the 4x200M free relay.
- Avery Knight, Adriana Martone, Taira Vroom, Laila Oravsky were bronze medallists in the 4x100M medley relay
- Lucian Vilchez, Patryk Danda, Baris Kartoglu, Jordi Vilchez earned bronze in the 4x100M medley relay

OSC High Point Awards
- Kaia Hornby finished 3rd for the 13 year old and younger high point award. Sam Brundage was 7th.
- Kaelyn Vroom was 10th for the 14 year old female age group.
- Laila Oravsky finished 3rd for the 16 year old and over female category, Taira Vroom was 5th.
- Griff Seguin was 7th in the male 14 year old and younger.
- Jordi Vilchez finished 2nd for male 17 year old and over high points. Will Debroux was 5th.
Club Records
There were 15 Club records broken by BTSC swimmers at the Ontario Swimming Championships.
- Avery Knight’s backstroke time of 1:04.89 for 100M is a 15-17 year old record.
- The 200M breaststroke 15-17 year old and open record was broken by Laila Oravsky with a new standard of 2:34.98. Laila broke the same age range records with a 2:17.87 200M butterfly time.
- Kaia Hornby broke records for 400M and 800M freestyle for 13-14 year olds with times of 4:37.76 and 9:25.67 respectively.
- Griff Seguins’s 2:02.46 time for 200M freestyle set a new record for 13-14 year olds. 8:52.45 is the new 800M freestyle mark, also set by Griff.
- Jordi Vilchez swam 1500M in a new Open Club record time of 15:40.73
- The girls team of Avery Knight, Adriana Martone, Taira Vroom and Laila Oravsky set an Open Club record for their 200M medley relay. The boys team of Lucian Vilchez, Patryk Danda, Baris Kartoglu, and Jordi Vilchez did the same record breaking in this relay event with a time of 1:49.07.
- The same girls team also set a new Open Club record in the 400M version with a time of 4:19.76. The 4x50M freestyle relay team of Baris Kartoglu, Ben Millar, Will Debroux, and Jordi Vilchez swam 1:36.62 to set a new standard for the Club in this race.
- The 800M free relay time of 7:51.43 set by Will Debroux, Scotty Sutton, Ben Millar, and Jordi Vilchez was also a Club Open record.

OSC Top 10 Finishes
