Trojan Cup 2025 Meet Highlights

Barrie’s East Bayfield Community Centre was the site for Trojan Cup 2025. BTSC hosted the competition December 12-14 and welcomed the Muskoka Aquatic Club, Newmarket Stingrays, Orangeville Otters and Valley East Waves for an exciting weekend of racing.

Thank you to Cara Harrington, Meet Manager, Laura Vaughan, Competition Coordinator, and Erinn Rupay, Officials Coordinator, for their hard work and leadership organizing and running a successful Trojan Cup.

Here are the highlights from a great weekend of competition.

The Eliminator

This fun exhibition event, a highlight of Trojan Cup, features 8 swimmers swimming 400M (12 year old and under) or 800M (13 year old and over) in sprint increments, eliminating one swimmer each round until only one is left.

Congratulations to the following BTSC swimmers who were crowned eliminator champions.

Sophie Bowen for girls 12 years old and under. Amazingly after battling for 400M with the other competitors, the last leg saw Sophie get to the wall 6/100ths of a second ahead of the second place swimmer to claim the title.
Blayke Taylor for girls 13 years old and over.
William Rupay for boys 12 years old and under.
Nathan Vaughan for boys 13 years old and over.

Being named eliminator champion came with a cash prize which the swimmers will surely donate back to their parents to help with swim costs :)

Club Records

The following new Club record was established during racing over the course of the weekend.

William Rupay had a 48 second improvement over his entry time to set a new 800M freestyle record. His time of 9:37.50 beat the previous record that had stood since 2005.
