Ontario Junior International 2025 Meet Highlights

Ontario Junior International took place December 11-14 at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Complex. This meet for 18 year old and under swimmers has fast qualifying standards resulting in elite level of competition. BTSC had 9 swimmers participating.

Here are the highlights.

Day 1 Highlights

Alessa Darby started the day in the preliminary session by setting a new provincial record in the para 200M IM for the SM6 classification. Her time of 3:57.63 established the new provincial benchmark, bettering her own previous record time. Kate Smith also had an excellent 200M IM swim, touching the wall 4 seconds faster than her seed time. Kate and Alessa both swam in the final session where they finished in 4th and 6th respectively. Tyler Millar and Will McConachie also bettered their 200M IM entry times by 4 seconds in their races. Tyler had a time 4th fastest in BTSC history for his age group and Will finished in a time that also cracked the top 10 fastest. 

Kate Smith was part of the para mixed 4x50M freestyle relay team that won the gold medal.

Lucian Vilchez set a new Club record for 50M freestyle with a time of 23.16 as the lead swimmer in the mixed 4x50M freestyle relay.

Day 2 Highlights

Racing in the 100M breaststroke events saw Alessa Darby, Kate Smith and Sam Brundage establish new personal best times. Alessa broke her second provincial record in as many days with a time of 2:01.06, eclipsing the previous record (held by Alessa) by 4 seconds for the SB6 classification. Sam had the 3rd fastest time for this event in BTSC history for 13-14 year old girls. In finals, Kate claimed the gold medal with a personal best time swim and Alessa was the silver medallist, breaking her provincial record from her morning swim with a time of 1:59.25.  

Will McConachie, Tyler Millar, Evan Beatty and Griff Seguin all established new personal best times in their 400M IM swims. All of their times rank in the top 10 fastest in BTSC history for their age category. Will’s time earned him an additional swim in the B final where he recorded the 4th fastest time in BTSC history and jumped many seed positions to finish 3rd in the race.

Ben Millar used a personal best to qualify for the 100M butterfly B final where he finished 4th. 

Alessa Darby grabbed the bronze medal in the 50M backstroke. Lucian Vilchez qualified for the 50M backstroke A final on the back of the second fastest time in BTSC history for his age group. He battered that time in the final and ultimately finished 9th overall. 

The boys 4x200M freestyle relay team of Lucian Vilchez, Griff Seguin, Tyler Millar and Evan Beatty established a new Club record time of 7:43.91 on their way to placing 7th. 

Day 3 Highlights

Kate Smith qualified for the 50M freestyle para final and placed 5th.  In the 50M butterfly final she placed 4th. 

Ben and Tyler Millar qualified for the 200M butterfly A and B finals respectively. Ben finished 8th overall in the event. 

Alessa Darby and Kate Smith were part of the gold medal winning para mixed 4x100M relay team. 

The boys 4x100M freestyle relay team of Lucian Vilchez, Ben Millar, Griff Seguin and Tyler Millar set a new Club open record with a time of 3:30.73 resulting in an 8th place finish. 

Day 4 Highlights

Alessa Darby used a personal best time to race to the para 100M freestyle bronze medal. Kate Smith finished in 4th place in the race. Lucian Vilchez qualified for the boys B final.

Lucian had the 2nd fastest time in BTSC history and a personal best time for his 200M backstroke race, earning 7th place in the A final. Evan Beatty earned an additional swim by qualifying for the B final.

Alessa earned her second bronze medal of the night with a best time in the para 50M breaststroke final. Kate placed 6th. In preliminary racing, Sam Brundage qualified for the B final with the second fastest time in BTSC history for 13-14 year old girls. She finished 6th in the B final race, bettering her time again to establish a new second fastest time in Club history.

Griff Seguin placed 10th in the 1500M freestyle with a personal best time and the 4th fastest in BTSC history for his age group.
