Barrie Aquafest 2025 Highlights
The Barrie Trojan Swim Club was pleased to host the Orillia Channel Cats, Pickering Swim Club, Uxbridge Swim Club, Muskoka Swim Club, and the Dorado Stars for Aquafest Oct. 31 - Nov. 2. BTSC had almost 150 athletes participating in an exciting weekend of racing.
Here are some BTSC highlights from the weekend.
In total, BTSC swimmers won 182 medals (74 gold, 59 silver, 49 bronze).
The following swimmers established new personal best times for each of the events they swam.

Timed finals for 400M individual medley and 800M and 1500M freestyle events were the focus for session one of the racing schedule. Medals and best times were plentiful for BTSC swimmers.
Harrison Levene (13-14 year old) reached the wall first to claim the 400M IM gold medal, dropping 33 seconds from his seed time. Daniel Eperjessy is the 15 year old and over silver medallist with a 10 second time improvement. Finn Taylor (4th), Dylan George (5th) Phoenix Pak (5th), Nathan Orava (6th) and Owen Oatway (8th), were all top 8 finishers and all posted times that were significantly faster than their entry times.
In the 800M freestyle events, Chase Turner, Tate Devroom and Lucian Vilchez claimed the gold medals for each of the boys age groups. Rydaar Watt and Griff Seguin earned silver medals while Edwin Huang and Tyler Millar were bronze medallists. Namiid Khan and Will McConachie placed 4th in their respective age groups. Anton Chaikouski (6th), James Mancini (7th), and Xavier Pak (7th), completed their races in top 8 positions. On the girls side, BTSC swimmers swept the medals in the three age categories. Amylee Courchesne, Jessica Enwright and Emma Mackie were the 11-12 year old gold, silver and bronze medallists. For the 13-14 year old age group, Blayke Taylor, Marrissa Battrick and Clara Vilchez earned the medals. Ameliya Suleimanov, Kaelyn Vroom and Molly Robinson were the 15 year old and over medal recipients. Top 8 finishers were Cassidy Meeuwse (4th), Maggie Taylor (5th), Eva Mankarios (5th), Kenzie Sparrow (6th), Gaby McFarland (7th), Sam Brundage (7th), and Maggie McConachie (8th).
William Rupay, Davis Kozanczyn and Sophie Bowen were 1500M freestyle gold medallists. Douglas Sutherland and Leah Martin had silver medal swims. All of these swimmers established new personal best times in their races.
Saturday
After the older age group swimmers vied for places in the finals in the morning session, the 12 year old and under swimmers took to the pool in the afternoon.
100M butterfly saw Esther Kim race to the 10 and under gold medal for girls. Chase Turner was also golden for the 11-12 year old boys. Sophie Bowen won a silver medal while Brynn Oatway (4th), Griffin Williams (4th), Emma Mackie (5th), Mila Antiquera (6th), Finn Harrison (6th), and Kenzie Marshall (7th), were all top 8 finishers. Sophie, Brynn, Emma and Mila all had finish times that were greater than 10 seconds faster than their entry times.
There were more medals in the 200M backstroke highlighted by a medal sweep for the 10 year old and under girls. Dylan Jackson (gold), Kat McFarland (silver), and Andi Hakimian (bronze) used times significantly better than their seed times to earn the hardware. Sophie Bowen and Eva Beaudry won the silver and bronze medals in the 11-12 year old age group. Amylee Courchesne (4th), Jessica Enwright (5th), Alexa Mackie (5th), Ainsley Kiser (5th), Olivia Bowen (6th), Kloe Gervais-Osmond (7th) and Anastasia Martini (8th) all used big time improvements to claim places in the top 8. In the boys races, Oscar Round and William Rupay swam to silver medals in their age groups. Raman Chaikouski, Andrew Bin and Jack Leahy finished 4th, 5th and 8th.
Brynn Oatway’s gold medal highlighted the 100M breaststroke racing. Emma Beland had a great race to claim a silver medal. Eva Beaudry, Kat McFarland, Sarah Leahy and Amylee Courchesne finished in 4th, 5th, 7th and 7th in their races. For the boys, Logan Round used a big best time to race to a bronze medal. Finn Harrison (5th), Griffin Williams (6th), Callum Round (6th), and Sevy Dmitrienko (7th) slotted into the top 8.
Oscar Round, Sophie Bowen, and William Rupay outpaced their 200M freestyle competitors to earn gold medals. Chase Turner was a silver medallist and Dylan Jackson and Alexa Mackie claimed bronze. The top 8 placements included Jessica Enwright (4th), Layne Sutherland (5th), Ainsley Kiser (6th), Macie Bortolussi (6th), Raman Chaikouski (6th), Andrew Bin (6th), Emma Mackie (7th), and Andia Hakimian (8th). Other swims of note were had by Jameson Moynihan, Jack Leahy, Quinn Harris, Boyd Miller, Norah Faris, Youmei Zhao, Trystynne Madder-Lamb, Jorja Sweet and Lennan Smethhurst whose finish times were all 20 seconds or better than their entry times.
In the girls 50M backstroke races, Kat McFarland touched the wall in the gold medal position while Emma Beland was the bronze medallist in the same race. Mila Antiquera finished in 5th place while Adaline Dymott was 8th. Kaisu Blommaert had a noteworthy swim with a 13 second improvement over her entry time. For the boys, Logan Round claimed the 11-12 year old silver medal. His teammates Archer Lee (5th), Lucas Klajn, Callum Round (6th), Gavin Avery (7th), and Michael Kliuchnyk (8th) were top 8 finishers.
Kenzie Marshall and Andrew Bin both used over 9 second improvements on their entry times to claim 100M IM gold medals. Logan Round earned a silver coloured medal while Oscar Round, Griffin Williams and Emma Beland were bronze medallists. There were numerous BTSC swimmers in the top 8; Youmei Zhao (4th), Finn Harrison (4th), Neo Zhang (5th), Hailey Kang (5th), Lack Leahy (6th), Alikhan Mammadli (7th), Kloe Gervais-Osmond (7th), Tristynne Madder-Lamb (7th), Kayla Yao (8th), Ainsley Kiser (8th), Jameson Moynihan (8th), and Raman Chaikouski (8th).
In the longer version of IM, the 400M, Eva Beaudry and William Rupay both significantly bettered their entry times to race to gold medals.
50M freestyle sprinting saw more hardware awarded to BTSC athletes. Alexa Mackie won the gold medal for being the fastest in her age group. Jessica Enwright and Chase Turner earned silver medals while Emma Beland won a bronze. Logan Round placed 5th and Emma Mackie, Dylan Jackson and Andrew Bin finished in 6th place.
The last events of the session, the 4x50M freestyle relay, saw BTSC girls teams race to gold and bronze medals. Eva Beaudry, Sophie Bowen, Jessica Enwright, and Alexa Mackie made up the gold medal winning team and the bronze medal team was Amylee Courchesne, Emma Mackie, Kenzie Marshall and Brynn Oatway.
The day of swimming for the older age groups culminated with the evening finals session.
The 13-14 year old 100M butterfly saw Clara Vilchez speed to the gold medal with a time of 1:05.53, the 4th fastest in BTSC history for this age group. Marissa Battrick was the bronze medallist and Avah-Skye Miller and Maggie McConachie placed 5th and 7th respectively. Maggie Taylor and Sam Brundage qualified for the B final where they placed 1st and 2nd. Like their younger teammates, BTSC 15 year old and over girls claimed the gold and bronze medals with Noemi Blake and Kaelyn Vroom doing that. Eva Mankarios finished in 5th and Ameliya Suleimanov was 8th. Molly Robinson and Cassidy Meeuwse earned swims in the B final. The boys racing had Tate Devroom leverage a BTSC historical top ten time for 13-14 year olds to claim the gold medal. Harrison Levene was close behind in the silver medal position. Phoenix Pak, MJ Lee and Douglas Sutherland raced in the B final. Gold and silver medals were awarded to Lucian Vilchez and Tyler Miller for the older age group finals race. Will McConachie, Evan Beatty, Griff Seguin and Daniel Eperjessy finished in 4th, 5th, 6th and 8th respectively. Finn Taylor qualified for and won the B final race. Xavier Pak also earned a spot in the B final.
200M backstroke finals had Edwin Huang and Will McConachie race to the wall in the gold medal position for the two age groups. Tate Devroom won a silver medal and Tyler Miller was a bronze medallist. Rydaar Watt and Griff Seguin placed 4th for their respective age groups while Nathan Orava was 5th and James Mancini 7th. For the 15 year old and over girls, Kaelyn Vroom raced to the gold medal and Bridget Robinson finished 7th in the race. Clara Vilchez and Marissa Batrrick were the silver and bronze medallists for the 13-14 year old age group. Blayke Taylor and Kenzie Sparrow were 5th and 6th. Gracelyn Oevering and Maggie McConachie earned another race in the B final.
The 100M breastroke final for 13-14 year old girls had a host of BTSC athletes step onto the blocks. Sam Brundage won the gold medal with a top 10 time in BTSC history while Blayke Taylor finished with the bronze medal. Kenzie Sparrow, Reese Anderson, and Marissa Battrick finished in 4th, 5th and 6th. Kaelyn Vroom touched the wall first in the 15 year old and over final to grab the gold medal. Molly Robinson was 5th, Eva Mankarios 7th, and Noemi Blake 8th. Anabel Hache and Erin Round qualified for the B final. The boys racing resulted with Harrison Levene and Rydaar Watt being awarded the silver and bronze medals for the younger age group. Tyler Miller and Will McConachie matched the accomplishment for the older age group. Daniel Eperjessy (4th), Finn Taylor (5th), Namiid Khan (6th), Lucian Vilchez (6th), Phoenix Pak (8th), and Dylan George (8th) all raced in the A finals. Edwin Huang won his B final race while Davis Kozanczyn, MJ Lee, Douglas Sutherland and James Mancini all earned 2nd swims in this race. Evan Beatty and Owen Oatway placed 1st and 2nd in their B final swim while Xavier Pak also earned a place in that race.
Ameliya Suleimanov is the gold medallist for the girls 15 year old and over 200m freestyle. Noemi Blake earned the silver medal. Eva Mankarios placed 4th while Gaby McFarland won the B final race. Maelle Clarke also raced in the B final. The younger girls races had Blayke Talyor and Clara Vilchez grabbing the silver and bronze medals. Sam Brundage and Lily Oliver placed 4th and 5th. Leah Martin and Gracelyn Oevering qualified for the B final. For the boys, Lucian Vilchez had the 3rd fastest time in BTSC history on his way to winning the 15 year old and over gold medal. Rydaar Watt claimed the 13-14 year old bronze medal while Nathan Orava and Davis Kozanczyn placed 6th and 8th.
Harrison Levene and Ameliya Suleimanov were gold medal winners for 50M backstroke. Evan Beatty raced to a silver medal and Edwin Huang won a bronze. The finals races also saw Namiid Khan and Griff Seguin place 4th, Owen Oatway 5th, MJ Lee and Dylan George 6th, Douglas Sutherland 7th, and Ben DePiero 8th.
The last individual event of the session, 200M IM, had Tate Devroom speeding to the 13-14 year old boys silver medal. In that race, Phoenix Pak and Nathan Orava placed 7th and 8th. Lily Oliver qualified for the girls B final where she was 2nd in that race.
The boys 15 year old and over 4x50 freestyle relay team set a new club record time of 1:38.37 on their way to winning the gold medal. The team of Daniel Eperjessy, Griff Seguin, Evan Beatty and Lucian Vilchez beat the previous record by 1/100th of a second.
Another BTSC team consisting of Dylan George, Will McConachie, Tyler Miller and Finn Taylor won the bronze medal. The 13-14 year old boys relay team of Tate Devroom, Edwin Huang, Namiid Khan and Harrison Levene were also gold medal winners.
For the girls 4x50M relays, 13-14 year old and 15 year old and over teams won silver medals. Marissa Battrick, Sam Brundage, Maggie McConachie, and Maggie Taylor, and Noemi Blake, Molly Robinson, Ameliya Suleimanov, and Kaelyn Vroom were on these teams.
Sunday
There was more great racing on Sunday with many more BTSC highlights.
The younger swimmers started their afternoon session with 400M freestyle. The girls medals were swept by BTSC athletes for both age groupings. Esther Kim, Kat McFarland and Emma Beland were gold, silver and bronze recipients for 10 year olds and under. The 11-12 year old gold, silver and bronze went to Sophie Bowen, Eva Beaudry and Alexa Mackie. Amylee Courchesne, Emma Mackie and Jessica Enwright finished top 8 in 5th, 7th, and 8th. Some other notable swims were put down by Brynn Oatway and Sydney Paquet who took big chunks of time off of their entry times. For the boys, Oscar Round’s 5:42.80 clocking was in the all time top 10 times for BTSC 10 year old and under swimmers. The time earned Oscar the gold medal. William Rupay was also a gold medallist for the 11-12 year old group while Finn Harrison placed 4th with a 24 second faster time than his seed time.
Esther Kim and Dylan Jackson both went over 10 seconds faster than their entry time to grab the gold and silver medals for girls 10 years old and under 100M backstroke. Ainsley Kiser and Andia Hakimian placed 5th and 6th. Kenzie Marshall sped to a bronze medal result for the older girls age group. Kayla Yao, Haley Kang and Tristynne Madder-Lamb finished in 5th, 6th and 8th. Other swims of note were had by Charlotte Teekens-dier, Oakley Roberts and Abby White whose finish times were over 20 seconds quicker than their seed times. Boys backstroking saw Raman Chaikouski (4th), Logan Round (4th), Archer Lee (7th), Andrew Mancini (8th) and Griffin Williams (8th) place in the top 8. Alikhan Mammaldi and Jameson Moynihan had race times that were better than their entry times by 16 and 29 seconds respectively.
Logan Round’s 50M breaststroke race earned him the 11-12 year old silver medal. Top 8 finishers were Neo Zhang (4th), Finn Harrison (5th), Andrew Mancini (5th) and Gavin Avery (6th). In the girls races, Brynn Oatway and Emma Mackie snagged the silver and bronze medals for the older age group. Amylee Courchesne placed 8th. Racing for the younger group saw Saoirse Zhang, Rae Xu and Skyla Hawkes all crack the top 8 in 6th, 7th and 8th. Of note, Kaisu Blommaert and Sophia Lorenstani had excellent swims, getting to the finish 19 and 10 seconds quicker than their entry times.
William Rupay had a best time on his way to the 200M butterfly gold medal.
In the 10 year old and under 100M freestyle for girls, Kat McFarland dropped almost 20 seconds off of her entry time to earn the gold medal. Emma Beland was 4th and Dylan Jackson 5th. Eva Beaudry led a BTSC medal sweep for the 11-12 year olds by winning the gold medal. Silver and bronze medals went to Sophie Bowen and Jessica Enwright. Amylee Courchesne placed 7th. Oscar Round had another all time top 10 clocking to earn the 10 year old and under gold medal. Callum Round and Andrew Mancini had notable swims, improving upon their entry times by 10 seconds. Logan Round and Griffin Williams placed 5th and 6th in the older age group.
Emma Beland outpaced all of her 10 year old and under competitors to take the 200M breaststroke gold medal. Layne Sutherland placed 6th. Alexa Mackie and Brynn Oatway won the gold and silver medals for the 11-12 year old age group. Charlotte-Teekens-dier placed 8th. Boyd Miller and Andrew Bin won silver medals for their respective age groups. Boyd’s time was a 40 second improvement from his entry time. Neo Zhang, Jeremy Tang, and Quinn Harris placed 4th, 5th and 6th.
Next up was 50M butterfly where Alexa Mackie and Eva Beaudry took the top 2 podium spots for 11-12 year old girls. Sophie Bowen, Kenzie Marshall, and Mila Antiquera placed 6th, 7th and 8th. For the younger girls, Macie Bortolussi (4th), Ainsley Kiser (5th), Aria Sarnat (6th) and Hannah Schoenmaker (8th) finished in the top 8. William Rupay claimed a silver medal for his race while Finn Harrison placed 6th, and Alikhan Mammadli was 7th as was Raman Chaikouski.
The last event before relays was 200m IM. In the girls 10 year old and under racing, the top 8 was occupied by BTSC swimmers. Gold, silver and bronze medals went to Esther Kim, Dylan Jackson and Kat McFarland. The rest of the placements were grabbed by Ainsley Kaiser (4th), Andia Hakimian (5th), Kloe Gervais-Osmond (6th), Macie Bortolussi (7th) and Sarah Leahy (8th). For the older girls, Jessica Enwright and Mila Antiquera dropped 19 and 32 seconds respectively off their entry times to place 4th and 7th. Boys racing resulted in another gold medal for Oscar Round and a bronze medal for Griffin Williams. Raman Chaikouski placed 4th in his age category while Andrew Bin and Jack Leahy finished 4th and 8th in their age group.
The girls 4x50M medley relay gold medal was won by the BTSC team of Eva Beaudry, Sophie Bowen, Jessica Enwright and Alexa Mackie. The boys relay teams took home silver and bronze medals. Those teams were Andrew Bin, Finn Harrison, Oscar Round, and William Rupay and Raman Chaikouski, Jack Leahy, Griffin Williams and Neo Zhang.
The last session of Aquafest featured the older age group swimmers in their finals races.
Sam Brundage, Reese Anderson and Marissa Battrick swept the 13-14 year old 200M breaststroke medals taking gold, silver and bronze respectively. Gracelyn Oevering finished 8th overall. The 15 year old and over race had Eva Mankarios winning the silver medal. Will McConachie had a BTSC all time top 10 clocking that propelled him to the gold medal in his race. Rydaar Watt won a silver medal. Tyler Miller (4th), Finn Taylor (5th), Nathan Orava (5th), Lucian Vilchez (6th), Davis Kozanczyn (7th) and Daniel Eperjessy (8th) all qualified and placed in the finals.
Clara Vilchez set a new Club record time of 29.36 in the 13-14 year old 50M butterfly on her way to winning the gold medal. Her teammate, Kenzie Sparrow, was close behind in the silver medal position with a time that is 4th fastest in BTSC history. Avah-Skye Miller placed 6th in the race. Noemi Blake is the gold medallist for the 15 years old and over age group. Ameliya Suleimanov placed 8th. Bridget Robinson and Anabel Hache qualified for an extra swim in the B final. Boys races had Namiid Khan and Ben DePiero placing 4th and 7th.
The 100M freestyle gold medal for the 15 years and older group went to Dorothy Dong. Molly Robinson placed 4th, Cassidy Meeuwse 5th, and Eva Mankarios 8th. Erin Round qualified for the B final. Blayke Taylor and Kenzie Sparrow won silver and bronze in the 13-14 year old 100M freestyle. Blayke’s time was the 4th fastest in BTSC history. Avah-Skye Miller and Sam Brundage finished in 4th and 7th. The B final featured Maggie McConachie and Reese Anderson. Maggie won the B final race. Harrison Levene snagged the gold medal for the younger boys race with Tate Devroom placing 5th and MJ Lee and Ben DePiero earning another swim in the B final. Dylan George and Owen Oatway finished 6th and 7th in the older age group race. Cole Harrison and Anton Chaikouski were B final qualifiers.
Blayke Taylor used the 3rd fastest 13-14 year old girls time in BTSC history to win the 200M butterfly gold medal. Clara Vilchez grabbed the bronze medal while Marissa Battrick and Maggie Taylor finished 4th and 5th. Noemi Blake won another gold medal in her race followed by Kaelyn Vroom in the silver medal position. The boys 200M butterfly medals were swept by BTSC swimmers for both age groups. Edwin Huang and Tyler Miller won gold. Silvers went to Rydaar Watt and Lucian Vilchez. Phoenix Pak and Will McConachie swam to bronze medal results. Nathan Orava and Evan Beatty placed 4th in their age groups, Davis Kozanczyn was 5th, and Douglas Sutherland 7th.
50M breaststroke finals had Harrison Levene winning a silver medal and bronze medals going to Reese Anderson and Rydaar Watt. Sienna Bin, Dorothy Dong, Anabel Hache and Erin Round finished 4th to 7th in girls racing while Daniel Eperjessy was 5th, Dylan George 6th, Edwin Huang and Anton Chaikouski 7th, and Evan Beatty 8th for boys.
Ameliya Suleimanov sped to the 100M backstroke gold medal and Kaelyn Vroom claimed bronze in the 15 years old and over age group. Clara Vilchez was the silver medal winner for the younger age group while Maggie Taylor placed 4th. Leah Martin and Gaby McFarland were B finals qualifiers. For the boys finals, Daniel Eperjessy’s swim earned a silver medal. Douglas Sutherland and Xavier Pak placed 7th in their respective age groups and James Mancini finished in 8th place.
50m freestyle sprints were the last event before relays. Noemi Blake won the gold medal and Dorothy Dong placed 5th. Mya Hall, Bridget Robisnon, and Erin Round qualified for the B finals. Boys races saw Evan Beatty claim a silver medal. MJ Lee, Ben DePiero, and Reicher Santoso earned another swim in the B final.
The 13-14 year old girls 4x50M medley relay team of Sam Brundage, Kenzie Sparrow, Blayke Taylor and Clara Vilchez established a new Club record time of 2:01.91 on their way to winning the gold medal. The team of Marissa Battrick, Maggie McConachie, Avah-Skye Miller, and Reese Anderson won the bronze medal. The boys 13-14 year old team of Tate Devroom, Edwin Huang, Harrison Levene and Rydaar Watt touched the wall fastest to earn the gold medal. The older boys team were also gold medallists. Daniel Eperjessy, Finn Taylor, Lucian Vilchez and Tyler Millar made up this team. The older girls team of Noemi Blake, Kaelyn Vroom, Ameliya Suleimanov and Eva Mankarios won the silver medal.
Congratulations to the BTSC 8x50M relay team that won the fun exhibition race at the end of the night that came with a $200 gift card for pizza.
