2025 World Aquatics Swimming World Cup Highlights

The third and final leg of the World Aquatics Swimming World Cup series took place at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Complex from October 23-25. Many of the fastest swimmers in the world including Kaylee McKeown (Australia), Kate Douglass (USA), Hubert Kos (Hungary), and Noe Ponti (Switzerland) along with Canadian stars like Joshua Liendo, Marie-Sophie Harvey, Ilya Kharun and Kylie Masse participated in the competition. As an example, to give perspective on the level of swimming, the athletes competing in the women’s 50M backstroke final had won a combined 32 Olympic medals! Throughout the weekend, numerous world records were broken.

BTSC was represented by four swimmers who were invited to compete: Griff Seguin, Lucian Vilchez along with Varsity swimmers Sydney Colquhoun, and Ben Millar. What an awesome experience!

Griff participated in the 1500M freestyle races where he set a new personal best time, beating his previous time by 5 seconds. His time was the 4th fastest 1500M freestyle in BTSC history! Griff placed 17th overall in the event and was the youngest athlete in the field. Congrats Griff!

Lucian swam in the 50M, 100M, and 200M backstroke events. His 50M backstroke time bettered his personal best by over one second and was the second fastest in BTSC history! Lucian had another best time in the 100M backstroke. His time of 56.17 set a new 15-17 year old and open Club record. He had his 3rd personal best time in the 200M race, clocking the second fastest time in BTSC history for this event. Amazing work, Lucian!

Sydney was entered in the 200M butterfly event where she finished in 15th place overall and was 5th amongst the Club swimmers. Her time was the 4th fastest in BTSC history for this event! Congrats Sydney!

Ben swam the 200M butterfly and 400M individual medley events. His 200M butterfly time of 2:02.73 set a new 15-17 year old club record and was the 2nd fastest in BTSC history and placed him 19th overall. He touched the wall in his 400m IM race with the 5th fastest time in BTSC history.

Congratulations swimmers on your accomplishments at the Toronto World Cup 2025. It was great to see the green Trojan caps in the pool well represented amongst the worlds best!

Go Trojans!
