MAC Fall Fest Invitational 2025 Highlights
It is a great time of the year for sports with hockey and basketball starting up, baseball playoffs in full swing, and the Barrie Trojans are back to racing! The 2025/2026 competition schedule kicked off with our swimmers in the water at the Markham Pan Am Centre Oct.18-19 for the Markham Aquatic Club Fall Fest Invitational. This short course meet format consisted of timed finals sessions with 13 year old and over athletes hitting the water in the morning and their 12 year old and under teammates in the pool in the afternoon. BTSC was one of 14 clubs competing at the meet.
Alessa Darby broke 3 provincial records during the weekend! Her 200IM, 50M butterfly and 50M breaststroke races established new Ontario records for the SM6/SB6/S6 Para classification.
Here are highlights from the first competition of the season.
Saturday
The Saturday morning session for BTSC started with 200M IM where Alessa Darby smashed her provincial record time to set a new provincial standard for the SM6 Para category. Her time was 24 seconds faster than her previous record! Blayke Taylor used a best time to claim second place for 13-14 year olds and was closely followed by her teammate, Marissa Battrick, who was third fastest. The top 10 was filled with BTSC swimmers with Clara Vilchez placing 4th, Kenzie Sparrow 5th, Harper Ferguson 6th, and Emma Vaughan 9th. Norah Moschenross swam to a 12 second best time. In the 15 year old and over age group. Kaelyn Vroom touched the wall in third place. Ameliya Suleimanov leveraged an 8 second best time to finish 4th, while Noemi Blake and Maddy Scott-Nichols placed 7th and 8th. For the 13-14 year old boys, Harrison Levene earned second place by touching the wall 14 seconds faster than his seed time. Edwin Huang, Tate Devroom, Rydaar Watt and Namiid Khan all had faster swims to finish 5th, 7th, 8th and 9th respectively. MJ Lee swam to a 30 second best time and Phoenix Pak had a 14 second personal best. In the older age group, Lucian Vilchez, Will McConachie and Tyler Millar swept the top 3 spots in that order. Griff Seguin claimed 4th place while Evan Beatty and Nathan Vaughan placed 7th and 9th. Xavier Pak and Owen Oatway had 8 and 7 second faster times.
The next event, 100M backstroke, saw Marissa Battrick finish her race in third place for 13-14 year olds. Emma Vaughan finished 7th overall. Aliana Hough had an excellent swim, bettering her seed time by 12 seconds. In the older girls racing, Kaelyn Vroom and Sam Takacs earned second and third place results. Gaby McFarland had a 6 second best time. For the boys, Lucian Vilchez swam a very fast 56.53 to take first place in the older age group. Tyler Millar raced to a third place finish and Evan Beatty came in 6th. For the younger boys races, Edwin Huang had a 5th place finish.
50M breaststroke racing saw Sam Brundage touch the wall almost 4 seconds faster than her next fastest 13-14 year old competitor to earn 1st place. Reese Anderson finished 9th overall. Eva Makarios, Sienna Bin, Sam Takacs and Dorothy Dong were all top 10 finishers for the 15 year old and over group, placing 5th, 7th, 8th and 10th respectively. For the boys, Daniel Eperjessy (6th), Finn Taylor (7th), Dylan George (9th) and Nathan Vaughan (10th) all bettered their seed times to finish in the top 10.
Blayke Taylor, Clara Vilchez and Kenzie Sparrow swept the top 3 spots in the 100M freestyle for 13-14 year old girls. The rest of the top 10 had more BTSC presence with Marissa Battrick, Avah-Skye Miller and Harper Feguson finishing 5th, 6th and 7th. Aliana Hough swam to an 11 second best time. For the 15 year old and over swimmers, Ameliya Suleimanov had the fastest time followed by her teammate, Noemi Blake, in second place. Maddy Scott-Nichols, Dorothy Dong, Julia Logan and Molly Robinson were all top 10 finishers, placing 6th, 7th, 8th and 10th. In the boys 13-14 year old races, Harrison Levene used a 4 second faster time to claim second place. Tate Devroom finished in 4th place while Edwin Huang and Namiid Khan placed 7th and 8th. For the older boys, Lucian Vilchez used the 3rd fastest 100M freestyle time (51.70 s) in BTSC history to earn first place. Griff Seguin had a best time while claiming third place. Tyler Millar, Will McConachie and Evan Beatty finished in 4th, 6th and 7th places.
The last event of the session for BTSC swimmers was 50M Butterfly. Alessa Darby established another provincial para record for the S6 classification with her time of 1:02.90. There was another BTSC sweep in the 13-14 year old girls races with Blayke Taylor, Clara Vilchez and Kenzie Sparrow taking first, second and third. Blayke’s time of 29.52 is a new Club record. Avah-Skye Miller finished in 5th place. Mya Hall had an excellent swim, bettering her seed time by almost 5 seconds. In the older age grouping, Noemi Blake raced to a first place finish and Ameliya Suleimanov claimed third place. Julia Logan and Maddy Scott-Nichols were top 10 finishers coming in 4th and 7th place. For the boys, Harrison Levene placed 6th, Tate Devroom 7th and Daniel Eperjessy 10th.
In the afternoon session, Alexa Mackie and William Rupay both posted faster times to finish 7th in their respective 11-12 year old 200M IM events. Sophie Bowen placed 9th with a time 13 seconds better than her seed time. Mila Antiquera (36 sec.), Griffin Williams (33 sec.), Kenzie Marshall (29 sec.), Sydney Paquet (27 sec.), Neo Zhang (23 sec.), Jessica Enwright (19 sec.), Reicher Santoso (17 sec.), Amylee Courchesne (15 sec.) and Kayla Yao (10 sec.) all had swims resulting in notable time improvements.
Esther Kim hit the wall 5 seconds faster than her seed time to take 4th place in the 100M IM. Kat McFarland finished 9th with a big 29 sec. best time. Olivia Bowen and Andia Hakimian also had excellent races, dropping 15 and 13 seconds off of their respective seed times.
In 100M backstroke racing, Eva Beaudry placed 6th. Tristynne Madder-Lamb, Lennan Smethurst, Charlotte Cole, Jorja Sweet, Anastasia Martini, Aria Sarnat, Madilynn Grimaldi, Norah Faris, Elena McCormack, Jack Leahy, Alikhan Mammadli, and Jameson Moynihan all had big time improvements.
In 50M breaststroke, Alexa Mackie outpaced all of the competition to finish in first place for the 11-12 year old age group. Brynn Oatway and Emma Mackie placed 5th and 7th, posting best times. There were other notable swims by Kenzie Marshall, Oakley Roberts, Tristynne Madder-Lamb, Sydney Paquet, Charlotte Cole, Isabella Borda Parra and Lennan Smethurst who all finished with times that were greater than 10 seconds quicker than their seed times. In the 10 year old and under group, Esther Kim sped to a 6th place finish. Anastasia Martini had a 24 second time improvement.
In the 100M freestyle events, Eva Beaudry (4th), William Rupay (5th), Alexa Mackie (6th), Kat McFarland (9th), and Sophie Bowen (10th) were all top 10 finishers. Kat’s time was an impressive 16 seconds quicker than her seed time. Macie Bortolussi, Aria Sarnat, Madilynn Grimaldi, Elena McCormack, Jaxon Pryke, Jameson Moynihan and Boyd Miller also swam to big time improvements.
Amylee Courchesne’s 400M freestyle swim resulted in a 7th place finish with a 21 second time improvement.
Sunday
Marissa Battrick had a second place finish in the 13-14 year old 200M freestyle to start the day of swimming for BTSC. Harper Ferguson, Emma Vaughan and Avah-Skye Miller raced to top 10 results by placing 4th, 6th and 7th respectively. In the 15 year old and over age group, Sam Takacs used a 5 second best time to claim third place. Kaelyn Vroom was close behind in 4th and Maddy Scott-Nichols (7th), Julia Logan (8th) and Cassidy Meeuwse (10th) placed in the top 10. Of note, Julia had a 9 second best time. Other notable swims included 23 sec. and 11 sec. best times by Mya Hall and Bridget Robinson. The boys 200M freestyle saw Griff Seguin and Harrison Levene leverage best times to claim first and second place in their respective age groups. Tyler Millar (4th), Edwin Huang (5th), Evan Beatty (5th), Tate Devroom (6th), Will McConachie (7th), and Namiid Khan (8th) all swam to top 10 results and all set new personal time standards. Nathan Orava (5 sec.), Phoenix Pak (11 sec.), Ben DePiero (6 sec.), MJ Lee (7 sec.), Finn Taylor (7 sec.), and Xavier Pak (16 sec.) also swam to big time improvements.
In the 100M IM for 13-14 year old girls, Clara Vilchez and Blayke Taylor used 6 second best times to claim second and third place respectively. Clara set a new Club record with a time of 1:08.33. The top 10 was full of other BTSC swimmers with Kenzie Sparrow taking 4th, Sam Brundage 5th, Marrissa Battrick 6th and Emma Vaughan 10th; all with personal best times. In the 15 year old and over age group, Ameliya Suleimanov and Kaelyn Vroom leveraged 7 and 6 second best times to earn second and third place finishes. Noemi Blake finished 5th and Molly Bobinson dropped 8 seconds off her seed time to place 10th. Lucian Vilchez sped to a first place finish in the boys 15 year old and over age group using a 6 second best time. Another 6 second best time for Tyler Millar earned him a third place result in the event. Will McConachie placed 5th, Edwin Huang was 8th, Tate Devroom 9th, and Daniel Eperjessy finished 10th. Rydaar Watt had an impressive 9 second time improvement.
Alessa Darby set her third provincial record of the weekend with a 100M breaststroke time of 2:05.83 for the Para SB6 classification. Sam Brundage won the 13-14 year old race. Eva Mankarios placed 4th in the 15 year old and over racing. For the boys, Finn Taylor touched the wall in second place and Cole Harrison and Xavier Pak finished 7th and 10th. In the 13-14 year old event, Rydaar Watt finished in 8th place.
13-14 year old girls 100M butterfly saw Blayke Taylor reach the wall in first place followed by her teammate, Clara Vilchez in third. Kenzie Sparrow finished in 4th place. In the older age group, Noemi Blake and Kaelyn Vroom placed second and third. Molly Robinson finished in 10th. The boys events were highlighted by second and third place finishes by Tate Devroom and Edwin Huang in the 13-14 year old age group. In the 15 year old and over age group, Lucien Vilchez, Tyler Millar and Nathan Vaughan placed 4th, 5th and 10th respectively.
Girls 13-14 year old 50M freestyle sprinting saw BTSC swimmers take the top 4 spots. Blayke Taylor was first, Avah Skye-Miller second, Clara Vilchez third, and Kenzie Sparrow 4th. Blayke and Avah were separated by only a hundredth of a second and the times for all 4 swimmers were in the top 10 fastest for this event and age group in BTSC history. Ameliya Suleimanov won the 15 year old and over race with Noemi Blake taking third. Maddy Scott-Nichols (4th), Sam Takacs (6th), and Julia Logan and Sam Brundage (both 8th), had top 10 results across the age groups. In the boys races, Lucian Vilchez set a Club record time of 23.80 on his way to a first place finish for the 15 year old and over age group. Daniel Eperjessy finished in 4th place. In the younger age group, Harrison Levene finished 4th overall and Namiid Khan was 9th.
Marissa Battrick is the winner of the 200m backstroke races for 13-14 year old girls and Emma Vaughan placed 8th. Evan Beatty took second place in the older age group for boys while Will McConachie finished 4th.
In the girls 50m backstroke races for 15 year old and over swimmers, BTSC athletes swept the top 3 spots and occupied 8 out of the top 10 places. Ameliya Suleimanov reached the end of the race quickest followed by Maddy Scott-Nichols and Sam Takacs in second and third. Julia Logan placed 4th, Bridget Robinson 6th, Dorothy Dong 7th, Gaby McFarland 8th and Sienna Bin 9th. For 13-14 year olds, Avah-Skye Miller and Anabael Hache finished racing in 5th and 6th places. Mya Hall and Madelynn Doyle had 5 and 7 second best times. Harrison Levene claimed second place in the boys 13-14 year old races. Namiid Khan was 5th and Phoenix Pak finished 9th. Racing in this event for the older boys saw top 10 finishes for Nathan Vaughan (6th), Daniel Eperjessy (7th), and Finn Taylor (10th).
In the afternoon swimming for the younger age groups, the session began with 11-12 year old 200M freestyle where Sophie Bowen sped to a 3rd place finish followed closely by Eva Beaudry in 4th, Alexa Mackie in 6th and Leah Martin in 10th. Sophie’s time was a 7 second improvement over her seed time. For the 10 and under girls, Esther Kim and Kat McFarland used big best times of 14 and 37 seconds respectively to earn 5th and 10th place finishes. Dylan Jackson (14 sec.), Amylee Courchesne (7 sec.), Jessica Enwright (8 sec.), Brynn Oatway (7 sec.), Kenzie Marshall (10 sec.), Mila Antiquera (10 sec.), and Sydney Paquet (9 sec.) had excellent swims, dropping significant time from their entry times. On the boys side, William Rupay swam to a 7th place finish for 11-12 year olds. Reicher Santoso, Griffin Williams and Neo Zhang had big time improvements of 10, 17 and 18 seconds respectively.
Charlotte Teekens-dier (12 sec.), Charlotte Cole (31 sec.), Oakley Roberts (17 sec.), Tristynne Madder-Lamb (11 sec.), Jorja Sweet (14 sec.), and Isabella Borda Parra (11 sec.) all reached the end of their 11-12 year old 100M breaststroke swims much faster than their seed times. In the 10 year old and under races, Andia Hakimian (10 sec.), Ainsley Kiser (10 sec.), Layne Sutherland (19 sec.), Norah Faris (50 sec.), Elena McCormack (19 sec.), Macie Bortolussi (19 sec.) and Anastasia Martini (30 sec.) achieved similarly large time improvements. In the boys races Jack Leahy, Jaxon Pryke and Raman Chaikouski improved upon their entry times by 8, 18 and 7 seconds respectively.
In the 50M butterfly, Alexa Mackie and Eva Beaudry raced to second and third place finishes for 11-12 year olds. Sophie Bowen placed 6th and Brynn Oatway was 9th. Jorja Sweet and Lennan Smethurst were 22 and 7 seconds quicker than their entry times. Esther Kim finished 4th for the 10 year old and under age group. Emma Beland and Kat McFarland had 9 and 15 second time improvements. In the boys events, William Rupay had a 9th place finish while Griffin Williams swam an 11 second personal best.
Leah Martin finished 8th in the 200M backstroke.
Sophie Bowen’s 50M backstroke swim earned her an 8th place result. There were great swims with significant time improvements by Mila Anitiquerra (6 sec.), Charlotte Teekens-dier (7 sec.), Oakley Roberts (8 sec.), Tristynne Madder-Lamb (5 sec.), Jorja Sweet (10 sec.) and Charlotte Cole (8 sec.). For the boys, Aikhan Mammadli and Jameson Moynihan had 7 and 17 second best times.
The last event for BTSC swimmers was 50M freestyle where Esther Kim sped to a second place finish in the 10 year old and under age group. Emma Beland and Kat McFarland placed 8th and 9th.
For the weekend, out of 631 BTSC swims, 472 of them were faster than the entry time (75%). There were 39 swimmers who completed all of their races with a time better than their seed time. Here is a list of those swimmers.
