2025 Ontario Open Water Championships Highlights

Gull Lake in Gravenhurst was the setting on a beautiful day for the 2025 Ontario Open Water Championships that took place on July 26. BTSC had 34 athletes and 5 relay teams entered to compete in the 5km, 3km, 1km and 4x500m mixed relay events in the Youth, Age Group and Masters age categories. Here are the highlights from a great day of swimming in the very long course venue.

5 Km Races

Keira Hornby was the fastest 14-15 year old competitor to navigate the Gull Lake course, earning her the gold medal. Will McConachie and Douglas Sutherland placed 4th and 9th in the 14-15 year old male standings.

3 Km Races

Marissa Battrick touched at the finish in the bronze medal position for the 14-15 year old age category. 

1 Km Races

Clara Vilchez raced to the silver medal in a very large field of 13-14 year old swimmers. There were a number of other BTSC swimmers in the top 25. They were Emma Vaughan in 7th, Maggie McConachie in 10th, Blayke Taylor in 11th, Maggie Taylor in 13th, Sam Brundage in 15th, and Harper Ferguson in 16th. 

Eva Beaudry, Leah Martin and Amylee Courchesne were top 25 finishers in the female 11-12 year old age group, completing the course in 11th, 15th and 24th respectively.

Andie Rose placed 6th in the 17 year old and over age group.

In the boys races, William Rupay finished in 6th spot for 11-12 year olds and Matt Creasor was 23rd in the 13-14 year old group.

In the 15-16 year old age group, Finn Taylor crossed the finish line in 4th and Dylan George was 15th..

Hannah Lord won the gold medal in the Masters F-39 category. Marta Valentic and Anna Blommaert finished 6th and 8th in the F40+ category. 

4x500M Mixed Relay Race

BTSC had 5 teams competing in the mixed relay events. The Masters team 'Need for Seaweed' finished 8th in their race. The top non-Masters team placed 19th overall.
