Age Group International 2025 Highlights
The Age Group International swim meet was held at the Etobicoke Olympium June 5-8. BTSC entered 20 athletes who competed with swimmers from 24 other clubs.
Thursday swimming consisted of the distance events. Marissa Battrick and Kaelyn Vroom claimed gold medals in the 1500m freestyle. Maggie McConachie and Rydaar Watt placed 6th in their respective races.
In the 800M freestyle racing, Will McConachie was the gold medal winner while Keira Hornby earned a silver medal and Evan Beatty used a 12 second best time to win the bronze medal. Kylie Sarabura placed 6th.
Friday morning preliminary swimming began with 200M freestyle where Kenzie Sparrow, Keira Hornby, Ameliya Suleimanov, Hannah Koopmans, Noemi Blake and Evan Beatty qualified for A finals. Kaelyn Vroom and Kylie Sarabura earned extra swims in the B final.
Kenzie placed 4th and Keira 6th in the final for 13-14 year olds. In the older age categories, Hannah finished 4th, Noemi 5th and Ameliya 7th. Evan finished 5th in his final.
For 50M backstroke, morning swims resulted in A finals for Marissa Battrick, Ameliya Suleimanov, Kaelyn Vroom, Daniel Eperjessy and Nathan Vaughan.
In the finals session, Nathan had a great swim to touch the wall first and get the gold medal. Daniel was not far behind, winning the bronze medal. Ameliya won a bronze medal while Marissa and Kaelyn were 5th and 7th overall in their age groups.
Eva Mankarios, Adriana Martone, Hannah Koopmans, Noemi Blake and Daniel Eperjessy earned A finals swims in the 100M breaststroke. Emma Vaughan qualified for the B final.
Adriana and Hannah were 1st and 3rd getting gold and bronze medals. Eva and Noemi placed 5th and 6th overall. Daniel finished 8th overall in his event.
The 200M IM preliminary races saw Marissa Battrick, Kenzie Sparrow, Eva Mankarios, Kylie Sarabura, Adrian Martone and Evan Beatty and Nathan Vaughan earn places in the evening session.
Adriana swam to a bronze medal in the 17 year old and over race. In the 13-14 year old girls final, Marissa, Kenzie and Eva placed 4th, 5th and 8th overall. For the boys, Nathan and Evan placed 6th and 7th.
The 200m butterfly was the last event of the session. Will McConachie and Tyler Millar were fastest in their preliminary races for their age groups to win spots in the finals.
Both Will and Tyler continued their 1st to the finish ways to earn gold medals in the finals.
There was more great swimming by BTSC athletes on Saturday.
Kenzie Sparrow qualified for the 50M freestyle A final where she won the bronze medal. Adriana Martone, Noemi Blake and Tyler Millar earned extra swims in the B final.
Evan Beatty won the 200M backstroke gold medal. Marissa Battick sped to a silver medal in her race. Daniel Eperjessy placed 4th and Ameliya Suleimanov was 8th overall in their A final races. Tate Devroom qualified for the B final.
In the 100M butterfly, Noemi Blake, Keira Hornby, Kenzie Sparrow, and Tyler Millar qualified for the A final. Noemi placed 4th, Keira 5th, Kenzie 6th and Tyle 7th. Eva Mankarios and Nathan Vaughan swam in B final races. Nathan won his race.
50M breaststroke finals saw Adriana Martone claim a gold medal while Kylie Satabura swam to a silver medal finish in a close race.Daniel Eperjessy placed 6th in his A final race.
Kenzie Sparrow won the 100M freestyle silver medal on the final day of races. Ameliya Suleimanov swam to the bronze medal in her age group. Keira Hornby placed 5th in the event. Tyler Millar placed 7th and Nathan Vaughan qualified for the B final.
Hannah Koopmans made it to the wall quickest in the 200M breaststroke to claim the gold medal while Will McConachie earned a bronze medal. Rydaar Watt swam in the B final.
Nathan Vaughan had a personal best time in the 100M backstroke final to win the silver medal and Evan Beatty touched right behind him in the bronze medal position. Marissa Battrick placed 4th in her race and Daniel Eperjessy was 6th in his.
In 50M butterfly racing, Will McConachie bettered his own Club record time to set a new standard of 27.76, winning the silver medal. Kenzie Sparrow and Marissa Battrick placed 4th and 6th in their race while Keira Hornby won her B final race.
Racing for the weekend ended with 400M freestyle where Marissa Battrick was fastest in her age group, winning the gold medal. Kenzie Sparrow placed 6th. Evan Beatty finished 4th in his race.
