BTSC wins the 2025 Huronia Region Team Challenge!
Huronia Region Long Course Team Challenge 2025 Highlights
A BTSC team of 40 athletes traveled to Brock University June 5-8 to compete in the Huronia Region Long Course Team Challenge. Our team raced with the Huronia Region Clubs along with the host, Brock, and Belleville. This meet is unique in that overall team points are important and individual swimmer and relay results (top 8) contribute to the team point total. A new addition for this year included a team challenge where various teams competed with each other. BTSC was matched with Hannover Swim Club in that part of the meet format.
After the bus ride to Brock it wasn’t long before our athletes were in the pool competing in the Thursday distance events. In the 800M freestyle events, William Rupay, Madeleine Devroom, Leah Martin, and Cassidy Meeuwse all raced to gold medal finishes for their respective age groups. Silver medals were earned by Nathan Orava, Sophie Bowen and Lily Oliver. Dylan Geroge, Raevyn Maule and Dorothy Dong were bronze medallists. Amylee Courchesne and Claire Pretty were 4th place finishers. Of note, Amylee’s time was an over 18 second personal best.
In the 1500M freestyle, Kennedy Jackson and Blayke Talor climbed to the top spot of the podium. Namid Khan and Douglas Sutherland placed 4th and 5th.
In the 400M freestyle, Chase Turner finished in 4th place and Leigh Sugden finished in 8th place.
In the Friday afternoon session the 12 year old and under swimmers were in the pool.
The first event, 200M breaststroke had Emma Mackie and Blayke Taylor racing to gold medals in their age groups. Alexa Mackie earned a silver medal. Nathan Orava also claimed a silver medal for his boys race.
In the girls 100M backstroke, Kennedy Jackson touched 2nd to earn a silver medal. Emma Mackie and Eva Beaudry were 4th place finishers in their age groups. Other top 8 swims were achieved by Madeleine Devroom (5th), Sophie Bowen (6th), Raevyn Maule (6th) and Leah Martin (8th). For the boys, Chase Turner was a silver medallist while Oscar Round and Ben DePiero placed 4th in the age groups. Oscar’s time was an over 7 second personal best. William Rupay placed 7th.
Blayke Taylor, Raevyn Maule and Alexa Mackie swept the 12 year old 50M butterfly podium. Blayke’s 29.84 time established a new Club record. Madeleine Devroom claimed the 11 year old silver medal while Eva Beadry placed 4th. Ben DePiero swam a best time and earned a bronze medal for his race. Oscar Round finished 4th in his age group.
There was more BTSC hardware in the 200m individual medley where Emma Mackie, Kennedy Jackson and Blayke Taylor were gold medallists for the three age groups. Raevyn Maule had a silver medal swim and Eva Beaudry, Sophie Bowen, and Madeleine Devroom placed 4th, 6th, and 7th respectively. In the boys races, Nathan Orava raced to a gold medal while Oscar Round and William Rupay claimed a silver and bronze medal. Chase Turner and Ben DePiero were 6th place finishers in their age groups.
The session culminated with 4x100m freestyle relays. The girls team of Alexa Mackie, Eva Beuadry, Kennedy Jackson and Blayke Taylor set a new Club record time of 4:31.31 and won the gold medal. The boys team of Ben DePiero, Nathan Orava, William Rupay and Chase Turner also won the gold medal. A second girls team of Madeleine Devroom, Leigh Sugden, Raevyn Maule, and Leah Martin were the bronze medallists.
Friday morning, preliminary events for the older age group swimmers took place. This was an opportunity for swimmers to qualify for finals later in the day where they could earn team challenge points for the team.
In the 200M freestyle preliminary races Maggie Taylor, Lily Oliver, Dorothy Dong, Sam Takacs, Cassidy Meeuwse, Namiid Khan, Cole Harrison, Dylan George, Owen Oatway, and Robert Palermo qualified for finals.
In the girls finals, Maggie Taylor and Dorothy Dong were medallists, earning silver and bronze respectively. Sam Takacs, Cassidy Meeuwse, and Lily Oliver placed 4th, 5th and 6th. In the boys racing, Dylan George swam to a bronze medal while Namiid Khan, Owen Oatway, Cole Harrison and Robert Palermo placed 5th, 5th, 6th and 7th in their age groups.
Reese Anderson, Julia Logan, Matt Creasor, Cole Harrison, Dylan George, and Finn Taylor earned spots in the 100M breaststroke finals.
At finals, Reese, Cole and Finn took silver medals. Julia and Dylan placed 4th and Matt finished in 6th place. Matt’s preliminary and finals times were a large over 16 second time improvement.
100M backstroke preliminary events saw Maggie Taylor, Reese Anderson, Sam Takacs, Julia Logan, Matt Creasor, Namiid Khan, Owen Oatway, Finn Taylor, and Hayden Snell earn extra swims later in the day.
Girls racing saw Sam race to the finish fastest to claim a gold medal. Maggie won another silver medal and Julia and Reese finished 4th and 7th overall in their age groups. In a very close race Matt out touched his competitor to win the gold medal while Namiid had a bronze medal swim. Owen placed 5th and Finn and Hayden were 8th in their respective age groups.
Brooklynne Buckingham, Namiid Khan, Dylan George, Robert Palermo, and Finn Taylor were finalists for the 50M freestyle.
Finals races resulted in Namiid placing 5th, Dylan 6th, Robert 7th, and Brooklynne and Finn 8th.
Preliminary 200M butterfly races resulted in Maggie Taylor, Dorothy Dong, Cassidy Meeuwse, Julia Logan, Rhys Serre, Andie Rose, and Davis Kozanczyn qualifying for finals.
Silver medals were awarded to Maggie and Dorothy for their finals swims. Cassidy, Julia and Andie finished 4th, 5th and 6th. Davis had an awesome finals swim, dropping 13.5 seconds from the morning, and almost 42 seconds from before the start of the day, on his way to a bronze medal.
The finals session for Friday ended with the 4x100M freestyle relay races. The girls team of Dorothy Dong, Julia Logan, Sam Takacs and Claire Pretty won the bronze medal. The boys team of Dylan George, Owen Oatway, Robert Palermo and Finn Taylor placed 5th.
Some other notable swims in the morning included Anabel Hache and Lily Oliver who dropped 14 and 21 seconds off their seed times for 100M backstroke.
The second full day of competition Saturday saw more great racing.
The morning session started with 400M freestyle timed finals. Lily Oliver and Dorothy Dong had the top female BTSC results with both claiming silver medals in their age groups. Maggie Tylor was the bronze medallist for her age. Cassidy Meeuwse and Claire Pretty were top 8 finishers placing 4th and 7th. The boys racing saw Dylan George win the gold medal and Namiid Khan take a bronze medal. Robert Palermo (4th), Haygen Snell (5th), Davis Kozanczyn (6th) and Douglas Sutherland (7th) were top 8 finishers. James Mancini had a very good swim with a 15 second best time.
In the finals session beginning with the 200M backstroke, Sam Takacs and Claire Pretty finished 1 and 2 to claim the gold and silver medals. Matt Creasor also won a silver medal in his age group while Owen Oatway and Hayden Snell placed 4th and 5th for the 15 year olds.
The 100M butterfly racing saw Julia Logan win silver and Dorothy Dong take bronze. Maggie Taylor was on the podium again with a bronze medal. Cassidy Meeuwse and Rhys Serre placed 7th and 8th. Finn Taylor won a bronze medal and Davis Kozanczyn had another top 8 finish, placing 6th.
Cole Harrison and Reese Anderson led the BTSC 200M breastroke charge, winning gold medals. Matt Creasor and Finn Taylor were silver medallists while Julia Logan finished 4th.
Dylan George earned a bronze medal in 100M freestyle racing. Namiid Khan and Finn Taylor were 4th place finishers while Owen Oatway placed 8th. For the girls, Dorothy Dong (4th), Sam Takacs (5th), and Brooklynne Buckingham (6th) all earned BTSC points.
Maggie Taylar and Reese Anderson took spots on the 200M IM podium by winning gold and bronze medals. Lily Oliver and Ju;ia Logan placed 4th and Andie Rose was 7th. Boys races saw Matt Creasor, Cole Harrison and Owen Oatway place 4th in their age groups.
The session ended with a fun mixed 4x100M freestyle relay where the team of Dorothy Dong, Dylan George, Sam Takacs and Finn Taylor placed 3rd.
In the afternoon, the 12 year old and under swimmers were in competition.
Emma Mackie started the afternoon off in great fashion by winning the 200M freestyle gold. Her teammates, Kennedy Jackson and Blayke Taylor, accomplished the same feat by winning their age groups. Kennedy led a BTSC podium sweep for 11 year old girls as Eva Beaudry and Madeleine Devroom won the silver and bronze medals. Alexa Mackie was also a bronze medal winner. Leah Martin and Sophie Bowen placed 5th and 6th. Oscar Round led the boys with an impressive gold medal swim while William Rupay and Nathan Orava were silver and bronze medal winners.
The 200M backstroke races saw Kennedy Jackson lead the way again earning another gold medal. Ben DePiero earned the silver medal for his race, leveraging 14 second personal best. Sopie Bowen had a huge almost 19 second best time to win a bronze medal and Chase Turner also won a bronze. Raevyn Maule and Leah Martin placed 6th and 7th.
Emma Mackie led a large field of 50M breaststroke swimmers to touch the wall first and win gold. Alexa Mackie completed a Mackie double by also winning the gold in her age group. Eva Beaudry placed 5th overall. For the boys, Oscar Round and William Rupay were 4th place finishers.
In 50M backstroke, Chase Turner won a bronze medal while Nathan Orava placed 4th and Leah Martin 8th.
Kennedy Jackson, Madeleine Devroom and Eva Beaudry achieved another BTSC podium sweep in 200M butterfly. Kennedy’s time was almost 53 seconds faster than her seed time. Blayke Taylor and Raevyn Maule were the gold and bronze medal winners in their age group. Chase Turner and Nathan Orava won boys gold medals while Ben DePiero earned a silver medal.
Emma Mackie climbed to the top of the podium again as a result of her 100M freestyle race using a 9 second best time. Alexa Mackie claimed a silver medal and Sophie Bowen placed 5th. William Rupay was a silver medal winner while Oscar Round placed 4th.
The mixed relay team of Blayke Taylor, William Rupay, Kennedy Jackson, and Nathan Orava finished 1st. The team of Alexa Mackie, Chase Turner, Ben DeOiero and Raevyn Maule came in 3rd.
Sunday morning, the final day of the team challenge, consistied of timed finals with all age groups participating.
In the first event, Blayke Taylor and Maggie Taylor, had gold medal swims. Dorothy Dong was silver medallist and bronze medals were awarded to Lily Oliver and Reese Anderson. Claire Pretty swam to a 5th place finish and Andie Rose was 7th. Oscar Round and Nathan Orava joined Blayke and Maggie as gold medal winners. Matt Creasor and Davis Kozanczyn had significant best times to place 4th and 6th. Douglas Sutherland also had a best time and finished in 8th.
The 50M freestyle sprints saw Kennedy Jackson and Eva Beaudry win 11 year old silver and bronze medals. Alexa Mackie also won a silver medal. Sophie Bowen placed 8th. For the boys races, William Rupay claimed a bronze medal while Oscar Round and Chase Turner placed 5th and 6th.
In the 50M butterfly, Julia Logan won the silver medal. Anabel Hache, Namiid Khan and Dylan George were 4th place finishers.
Emma Mackie was the fastest 10 year old 100M breastroker, winning the gold medal in a field of 34 swimmers. Nathan Orava swam to a bronze medal followed by William Rupay in 4th place.
Madeleine Devroom and Blayke Taylor were golden in the 100M butterfly. Blayke’s time of 1:07.31 smashed her old Club record to set a new Club standard. Emma Mackie and Kennedy Jackson earned silver medals and Raevyn Maule was a bronze medal winner. Eva Beaudry and Alexa Mackie finished in 7th for their age groups. In the boys racing, Chase Turner and Ben DePiero both used best times to win silver medals.
Reese Anderson and Julia Logan were 50M breaststroke bronze medallists. Finn Taylor and Dylan George placed 4th and 5th while Anabel Hache swam to a 6th place finish.
The competition culminated with 4x100M medley relay races. The team of Dorothy Dong, Blayke Taylor, Sam Takacs and Julia Logan were at the top of the podium. The boys team of Dylan George, Finn Taylor, Owen Oatway, and Hayden Snell placed 4th.
