2025 Canadian Open Water Trials Highlights

In partnership with USA Swimming, the Canadian Open Water Trials were held in sunny Sarasota, Florida from April 4 to 6, 2025. BTSC swimmers Taira Vroom and Laila Oravsky along with Coach Endi took part in this high-level competition. These trials along with 1500M race times will be used by Swim Canada to select the World Championship team. 

On April 4th, the 10km race took place where Taira finished 17th in a time of 2hr 10min.23 - to put this into context, this was only 6min off the first place finish of 2hr 04min.09!!

On April 6th , both Laila and Taira raced in the 5km event. Laila finished the course in 8th place with a time of 1hr 04min.17 while Taira placed 17th with a time of 1hr 06min.48. The 8th place finish earned Laila a medal. 

While they were in Sarasota, Taira, Laila and Endi were able to participate in the Sarasota Sharks workouts - a great experience with a well-known program.
