Elaine Thompson Memorial Swim Meet 2025 Highlights
The Orillia Channel Cats hosted the Elaine Thompson Memorial swim meet Jan. 25-26. BTSC had over 40 athletes competing against the Orillia Channel Cats, Collingwood Clippers Swim Club, Peterborough Swim Club, Owen Sound Aquatic Club, Breakers Swim Team, Muskoka Aquatic Club, Lindsay Lightning Bolts and COBRA (Brampton).
The Saturday sessions included morning preliminaries and evening finals for the 13 year old and over swimmers with timed finals in the afternoon for the 12 year old and under group.
The afternoon session was highlighted by a 50M freestyle gold medal for Avah Skye Miller. Her time was also an Elaine Thompson Memorial meet record for her age group. Congratulations to Harper MGill who earned her first Regionals qualifying time in the event. Raman Chakouski and Esther Kim claimed silver and bronze medals respectively in their races.
Raman Chaikouski was back on the podium for the 200M backstroke, this time in the gold medal position. Dylan Jackson with a silver medal, and Esther Kim with a bronze medal, were also on the podium in the 200M backstroke.
For the 200M freestyle, Emma Beland touched the wall first to earn a gold medal for her age group. Avah Skye Miller is the silver medallist for her age group.
Emma Beland was also a gold medallist in the 400M IM. She earned a bronze medal in the 100M breaststroke.
Saturday evening saw the 13 year old and over swimmers racing in finals. There were a number of BTSC medal winners.
Gaby McFarland won the gold medal for the 200M freestyle in the 13-14 year old age category, racing 2 seconds faster than she did in the morning to claim the top prize. Lily Oliver earned the bronze medal in this race with a great swim, taking off 3 seconds from her preliminary swim. For the 15 year old and over 200M freestyle final, Brigid Davidson is the bronze medal winner. Yaroslava Shneider finished 5th in that race.
In the boys 200M freestyle final, James Mancini and Douglas Sutherland improved their finals times by 7 and 8 seconds respectively to place 5th and 6th.
Henry Kang had an amazing swim in the 15 year old and over 50M freestyle final, taking the bronze medal. Henry, seeded 5th in the final, climbed up two spots to claim that prize, using a time that was almost a second faster than his time from the morning. Annabel Hache and Ziggy Knutson made the girls B final and touched at the finish in 4th and 6th place.
In the 200M backstroke races, Lily Oliver and Douglas Sutherland were A finalists, both placing 8th overall. In the girls 13-14 year old B final, Gaby McFarland, Emma Guthrie, Ziggy Knutson and Joelle Louis all qualified to represent BTSC, finishing 3rd, 5th, 6th and 7th.
Brigid Davidson finished 7th overall in the 100M breaststroke and Norah Moschenross earned a place in the B final where she finished 5th.
