2024 Aquafest Meet Highlights

Alexandra Harrison

The East Bayfield Community Centre was the venue for some very exciting swimming Nov. 1 - 3 as the Barrie Trojans hosted Aquafest, our first home meet of the season. It was our pleasure to welcome eight clubs for a weekend of great competition. The Belleville Beast, Dorado Stars, Uxbridge Swim Club, Pickering Swim Club, Orillia Channel Cats, Lindsay Lightning Bolts, Muskoka Aquatic Club, and Barrie Trojans created lots of waves throughout the weekend.

A huge thank you goes out to our meet organizers for leading a fantastic 40th edition of Aquafest! They are our meet managers Stephanie Tavitian-Guthrie and Laura Vaughan, competition coordinator Kelly McCrae, and the officials coordinators, Stephanie Tavitian-Guthrie and Erinn Rupay. Thank you as well to all of the volunteers and officials who helped execute a highly successful meet. Congratulations to all of the officials who achieved a sign off as they journey up the officiating certification ladder. Thank you as well to Cathi Brown and Laura DeVroom for coordinating the registration of all the BTSC officials.

Before getting to the swimming highlights, the Barrie Trojans recognize our meets sponsors, Barrie Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation, Domino’s Pizza, Precision Mold Technologies, Triple Bogey Brewing Co., Booster Juice, and Dairy Queen (Bradford St., Bayfield Mall locations) as well as our Club sponsors, Jackson’s Toyota, Brandy’s Cove Yachting Centre and Georgian BMW for their support in enabling our swimmers to participate in the great sport of competitive swimming.

Though this was the 40th edition of Aquafest, it was the first meet ever for some of our swimmers. Congratulations to all of these swimmers on completing their first of what we hope is many competitions. One of Trojan coaches characterized the swimming by BTSC athletes by saying “I am tremendously impressed by the quality of swimming this weekend”.
