Certifications
It takes at 40 volunteers+ to run a swim meet.
Below are some volunteer positions available to swim families.
All officiating positions require training. Introduction to Swimming Officiating (Timekeeper) and Judge of Strokes/ Inspector of Turns clinics will be held regularly September through November in preparation for Aquafest and Trojan Cup.
Other clinics are offered throughout the swim season. Check website regularly for clinic times and locations.

Take and record manual times of swimmers. Ensure proper swimmer in lane. Understand paperwork related to timing |

Inspect technique of swimmers (stroke). Inspect turns of swimmers. Report infractions to referee. |

Assign and/or ensure swimmers are in proper heat and lane. Check and control swimmers in marshalling area |

CFE: Oversees the operation of the timing equipment. Ensures equipment is operating properly and watches finish touches of all swimmers |

Chief Finish Judge (CFJ) Recorder/Scorer (R/S) |
CFJ: determines official times through the use of manual (stop watches) and semi-automatic (plunger) timing devices. R/S: Maintains the official record of a session. Uses Hy-Tek Meet Management software |

Club Officials Chair |
Coordinates in‐person clinics for their club. Recruits swim meet officials and ensures all spots are full. Monitors progression of officials’ development. |
- Preparation of 5-10 clinics throughout season - 2 weeks of preparation leading up to meet - Onsite (not full-time) during the weekend of the meet |

Club Officials Administrator |
Manages the Swimming Canada Officials Registration system (RTR) for the club. Registers officials with Swimming Canada/ Swim Ontario. Maintains officials’ online profile information. Identify officials reaching next certification level. |
- Update officials listing at start of each season (several hours) - Update officials’ profile on an ongoing basis as clinics are offered and meets held (1-2 hours post clinic, 2-3 hours post meet) |
